John Hering
Mr. John Hering is an entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist focused on leveraging technology and capital to accelerate progress for the benefit of The United States of America and its allies.
He has a track record of founding and building significant multi-billion-dollar technology companies used by hundreds of millions of people around the world, which include Lookout and Coalition. As an investor, he has supported world-changing businesses in such fields as artificial intelligence, next generation infrastructure, defense technology, space exploration, neuroscience, and internet communities. Hering is a prolific technologist and has co-authored 43 patents primarily in the fields of cybersecurity, cloud, and mobile technologies.
Hering co-founded Lookout, a leading global cybersecurity company, while attending the University of Southern California. Lookout protects over 175 million devices globally and works with many of the largest organizations in the world including the US Department of Defense. Hering served as the Chief Executive Officer of Lookout until March 2014 and currently serves as its Executive Director.
Hering co-founded Coalition, a leading global cybersecurity insurance company. Partnered with global insurer Allianz, Coalition combines comprehensive insurance and proactive cybersecurity tools to help small businesses manage and mitigate cyber risk. Coalition is backed by over $500 million in venture capital from leading investors including Allianz, Durable Capital, General Atlantic, Valor Equity Partners, Ribbit Capital, and Vy Capital.
Vy Capital is a global technology investment company Hering cofounded. Vy Capital manages over $30B in assets, and makes concentrated, long term investments in technology companies primarily on behalf of US-based non-profit institutions and endowments. Notable investments include SpaceX, xAI, The Boring Company, Neuralink, X, Reddit, Cerebras, Zomato, Urban Company, Upgrade, and Coalition.
