James (Jim) Trebes

Dr. James Trebes received his BS in Physics from Georgia Tech and his PhD in Physics from Yale University. He then worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (1984-2023) on a broad range of topics including x-ray lasers, laser fusion, nuclear weapons physics, nuclear weapons engineering, x-ray optics, x-ray imaging, detectors, biophysics, bio-detection, night vision, military special operations technology, medical technology, space technology, tomography, nuclear non-proliferation, intelligence analysis, quantum science, and conventional weapons technology.

He has served as a Group Leader, Division Leader for Medical Technology and Biophysics, Division Leader for Applied Physics, and Division Leader for Physics. He was the Principal Physicist for Directed Energy for OUSD (R&E) from 2019-2020 and the Principal Director for Directed Energy for OUSD (R&E) from 2020-2022.

He has served as an advisor to both the Texas A&M Aerospace Dept and the UC Berkeley Nuclear Engineering Dept. He was co-chairman of the Missile Defense Agency Directed Energy Independent Assessment Team. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and currently is a private consultant.
